Our interview was published in WomenCinemakers Biennale 2024. In this special edition, together with several women cinemakers from different parts, the dance video “Soy Semilla” was selected, which we created with Lila Penagos (Director co-author). This work was woven to honor, create, heal, plant, understand how when someone dear leaves, they will continue to live on in those of us who love them. In this interview, Lila also shares the creative process behind her first film, “Cuentos para no dormir”, which premiered at the Sheffield Doc Festival this year.

Solo dance performance
Spectaculo! Cultuur Festival Geleen!
Burgemeester Damenpark, Geleen, Netherlands.
In this performance, dancer Amalia Herrera pays tribute to all the women who have shaped us.
When I learned that my grandmother had passed away, I wanted to run and hug something that would remind me of the immensity of the moments I had hugged her. At that moment, it was pouring with rain, and I was on the other side of the ocean. The first thing I did was run through the rain to my garden to touch the earth, squeeze it, caress it, feel her hand in mine. Her garden was always full of plants, trees, seeds, sprouts, births, transformations, memories, games, stories, secrets, tears, and love.
Her garden was her territory of freedom. Do we possess a territory, or is it the earth that allows us to inhabit it?
Where do our bodies end and our environments begin?
